Naturopathic Medicine

Fundamentally, naturopathic medicine differs from conventional medicine. Rather than simply reducing the human organism to separate organ systems and disease, naturopathic medicine looks at the whole; how systems interact and function together. Everything is connected.

For example, the natural doctor, natural homeopathic doctor and natural psychiatrist knows that the health of our guts affects our brain, vice versa, and everything else. This is true and detectable from our minds all the way down to the sub-cellular level. Our technology advances continue to further illuminate the interactivity of everything within and without the body.

To the objective of improved function and health, naturopathic doctors are trained to detect root causes of illness and the obstacles to well-being in order to direct therapeutics that will promote, stimulate and assist the body's own innate healing capacity.

From the Association of American Medical Colleges:

"A licensed naturopathic doctor (ND/NMD) is a primary care physician who is trained to diagnose and prescribe, while a traditional naturopath is not able to do either.

To be licensed as a primary care naturopathic physician by a state or jurisdiction which requires licensing, one must:

Graduate from a four-year, professional-level program at an accredited naturopathic medical school that is recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Take and pass the two-part Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Exam (NPLEX), which covers basic sciences, diagnostic and therapeutic subjects including spinal alignment and clinical sciences.
Pass jurisprudence examinations and meet other state/provincial requirements for regulated professions including background checks and continuing education.

In the United States: 26 jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands all have laws regulating naturopathic doctors."
